I Am JGlassX and this is my Magical Mystery Blog

Hello, and welcome! My name is Jonny and you have found your way to my gaming blog, lucky you! Chances are you already know me, or at least you've met me long enough to get my name, so doing an About Me blogpost might seem unnecessary, but I would like to use this post as a chance to let you know my goals for this blog and what you can expect in the future.

I've always been a thinker and a question asker. And I ask good questions too, not some Jimmy Fallon, "So what was it like working with Butts McGee?" bullshit, stuff that actually makes you think. One of the things I want to do with this blog is ask questions that you actually want to answer, and I hope you tell me what your answers are! I feel like so much of our society is built on trying to convince people that everyone else feels a certain way about this or that, I would love for this blog to be a place where people can explore a variety of different viewpoints about how we interact with games. I plan to make every blog post a question that I explore from my perspective and I invite you to respond with your own take.

I'm also an observer and a critic. I'm a bit of an introvert so it's in my nature to look at the world around me and observe how it works (or at least how I perceive how it works), and I'm also opinionated, which lends itself to critiquing the things I observe. There's a lot to like about modern games and gaming culture, but there's also a lot not to like, and I want to get to the bottom of both. I want to use this blog to highlight the highs and lows of modern gaming culture.

So I am a thinker, a question asker, an observer, and a critic. Imagine putting that on a Tinder profile, think anyone is swiping right on that guy? I know I wouldn't.

Here's a more practical about me: Hi, my name is Jonny, but my internet handle is JGlass/JGlassX. The X isn't just me trying to relive the glory days of AOL instant messenger when the easiest way to show how cool you are is by adding X's to your screenname, it's a shoutout to the X-Men because I am a big ol' nerd. I am currently a master's student at Northeastern University studying game science and design. As I write this I am working on a game of my own design: a rail shooter that I am making for my friend's kid (I'm hoping to get it on Steam). My goal for after I graduate is to work at a medium-large studio as either a systems, narrative, or level designer.

I look forward to engaging with my readers on some topics that I hope we will all find interesting. In the mean time, I will leave you with this question: What is a game that you have played recently that made you think, "Wow, this is a really well designed game." For me that game is Inscryption. Inscryption is a deck-building roguelike with a very simple core gameplay loop, but it's surrounded with all sorts of other challenges and narrative bits that only make the game even more intriguing the more you play it.
